How to Transform by Faith: God’s Serendipity, Dreams, And Sovereignty

1. Recognizing God in the Moments That Feel Meant to Be

On Saturday night I spoke with a friend. Friend, in its truest definition, means something very deep. Colloquially we use it flippantly with little regard for the weight of the word. The magnitude of it all! Perhaps I should say I use it like so.

But there’s something that happens when a new “friend”. When I use friend here, or casually, I mean there’s a soul connection. It doesn’t mean that I have to have met them in person. Or have known them for a long time. But I do mean, there’s something deep in me that recognizes something deep in you. One could, I could, I do mean spirit. The God in me sees and recognizes the God in you.

Anywho, last night I had a nearly 3 hour long convo with a friend. A deep soul connection. A new friend to me but clearly not to my soul. A 3 hour convo in what felt like 20 minutes, you know? If you know, you really know.

She spoke about God being serendipitous. “Yes, I love that! God as serendipity,” I said. “Perhaps that’s why I love it. Because if he weren’t, I’d miss it!” It’s like I didn’t know I could pray for that. I can pray for anything, though. Okay, I didn’t think to pray for that, but now I will!

As God would have it, the next day I joined an Intuition and Clarity meeting. You ever want to do something but don’t want to do something? At the same time?!

I took my friend’s advice. Do the thing, and surrender the outcome to God. He always shows us the way. That’s what he meant when he said, “I am that I am. I am the way, the truth, and the light.” There’s no wrong way with God. (Well, disobedience but that’s something entirely different.)

2. God’s Perfect Timing: Lessons from Dreams & Faith

So on Sunday afternoon, I joined the call. Hesitant, but trusting. “What do you like most about Higher Power?” they asked.

“Serendipity! That God answers my prayers. That everything works together for my good even when I don’t do what I know I was supposed to do. When I was disobedient. When I “missed the mark” aka sinned. I prayed God would speak to me through my dreams, and He does! I’ve been dreaming most nights and journaling about them first thing the next morning. And each time, I learn divine lessons. Something that I knew but I didn’t know know. How amazing that God communicates to me through my dreams! That while I’m sleeping, God is restoring my body, speaking to my soul, and my mind. And all I have to do is sleep. Is rest. And I’m renewed!

In real life, last summer my chiropractor reminded me that sometimes things can be done out of order and still work together for our good.

Conversely, last night the lesson I learned from my dream is that sometimes things can’t be done out of order! It wasn’t until I journaled my dream that the literal meaning of “out of order” struck me like a ton of bricks (that’s violent, ain’t it?! Lawx!) Thankfully, God is– can be— gentle, unlike (hu)man.

3. How Spirituality & Sovereignty Reflect God’s Love

I joined my Black writer’s meeting. I yearn for this meeting like I yearn for ice cold water on a hike on a 105℉ (45℃ for my friends “across the pond”) day when the sun beats down on me, kissing and caressing me. Loving me like I love it loving me.

Guess what we’re talking about in this meeting? It’s so good I can’t make this up myself! Read it for ya’self, sis:

You can read more about synchronicity here, starting on Page 100, in Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way.

  • If we’re open to God, do we believe in his Serendipity, Synchronicity, Spirituality & Sovereignty? In other words, do you believe that life can be and is easy and serendipitous?
  • How can we believe in the what, do the work, and leave the how up to God in all his Sovereignty?
  • What do you love most about God (whatever you call him)?

What Do You Love Most About God?

What strikes me most is how God meets us exactly where we are—whether through a dream, a chance conversation, or the quiet moments of surrender. He weaves the pieces of our lives together with such precision and care, even when we can’t see the full picture. It’s serendipitous, yes, but also sovereign—a reminder that nothing is truly random when God’s hand is guiding the story.

So here’s what I’m taking with me: the beauty of trusting in the work, the waiting, and the whispers of grace. Of knowing that serendipity isn’t luck—it’s love. It’s God showing up, always.

How to Pray for Trust in God’s Divine Order and Timing

Heavenly Father and Nurturing Mother,

Thank You for Your faithfulness and the gentle ways You speak to me, even in my dreams! Your serendipity and perfect timing comfort me because I know no matter where I fall short or miss the mark, You are always working things together for my good. Me! Lil ol’ me! How amazing it is that even as I sleep, You restore my body, renew my mind, and whisper divine truths to my soul!

Lord, teach me to trust You more deeply, more fully, more widely. Help me to rest in the peace of Your presence and to embrace the lessons You weave into my life, whether they come through moments of clarity or quiet reflection or loud clangs of cymbals. Show me the beauty in Your divine order, and give me the patience, wisdom, boldness, courage, and faith to follow the path You’ve set for me, step by step, breath by breath, in faith and obedience.

Thank You for being a God of second chances, of grace, and of soft, gentle correction. Guide my heart to seek You and Your Kingdom first in all things. And to see Your hand at work, even in the moments I don’t or can’t yet understand. You are the way, the truth, and the light, and I trust that Your plan is greater than I can ever imagine. Thank You that You do exceedingly, abundantly, and above all more than I could ever, ask, think, or imagine!

In your holy, might, powerful, matchless name I pray.

Your Turn to Reflect!

And now, I leave you with this:
What do you love most about God? What moments in your life reflect His serendipity, synchronicity, spirituality, and sovereignty? May you reflect, rest, and rejoice in the divine beauty of it all.
