When You’re Overwhelmed, Love Is Not Optional — She’s the Answer

She Breathed Through the Overwhelm and Found Love Holding Everything

What is time?

Time whispers like the cool breeze on a tropical day. Poolside. Cocktail in one hand, book in another. Sunglasses on. Music wafting in the air like the breeze that carries it.

You can’t see it, but you know it’s there. You can’t see it, but you know it’s here. Here one moment, gone the next.

Time is sly like a cool cat in the ’70s.

Time is cold like a nitro cold brew and hot like the sun on the equator.

Time, like the Spirit, is everything, and nothing.

It’s everything everywhere all at once. And it’s nothing, nowhere, never.

When Time Won’t Slow Down, Love Is the Only Thing That Holds

How does time move like this?!

I can’t help but ask myself.

As I look at my home, scattered with belongings I once held dear, I can’t help but feel everything—the fullness of time and the emptiness of it, too.

With less than 6 weeks until I surrender my home, I get to sell everything, pack some things, and donate others.

I feel like I have so much time, and feel like I have none.

The Breath Before the Brave

And so I breathe. Deep breath in. Slower breath out.

And with each breath, my confidence grows.

I don’t know how I got it, but I laugh because know I do.

Love helps me. She’s the warm embrace that reminds me it’s okay. She’s my friends eager to help. She’s my past self cheering me on. She’s forgotten love letters found that I read with glee.

Everything around me shows me love. The muddy sneakers I wore to a reggae festival with chosen family. The YOU ARE STRONG poster gifted to me. The pile of over 30 journals filled with worries and dread and fears and confidence, and prayers and courage, too. The rows of books. The Rubbermaid containers filled with over $150,000 worth of grad school notes.

Love is everything everywhere all at once because she is here. She is with me. And she is me. Where I am, love is. Where I go, love goes.

Worry Has No Home Here and Neither Does Fear

Like my now 104 year old grandmother has always said, why worry when you can pray?

And so instead of worrying, I choose to write. I write to confront myself and in this brief moment of pause, reflection, and confrontation? I know in my heart of hearts that everything here will land where it needs. Every thing will find a good home. Because where love is, home is. And where my seeds of love go, love will grow.

When Worry Meets Love, Only One Gets to Stay

Worry has no home here. Not my own, or my parents, or my friends. What was worry we transmute into excitement for our journey ahead. And so it is. It is done. It is one, and it is won. Ase. Ameen. Amen.

Small Steps: Embrace Who You Are Divinely Be(com)ing

She sold everything. She packed what mattered. She breathed through the overwhelm and let love lead. And in less than 6 weeks, she’s moving to Vietnam.

That woman is you, too! Not the Vietnam part necessarily— but the boldness, courage and audacity. The surrender. The decision to stop letting worry take up residence in your life and start letting love show you the way.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to take a deep, intentional breath. Then the next step.
